Final: Reflective Post

Final: Reflective Post Where do I begin? My thoughts on EME2040 are only positive. Taking this class online was a huge challenge for me. Although, many emails throughout the semester my professor was right there by my side to help me get through it. I think that my biggest challenges were the group projects. It was hard for my group to contact one another at the right times when we needed, but somehow we managed to get by! With that being said, surprisingly, I really enjoyed the textbook. "TRANSFORMING LEARNING WITH NEW TECHNOLOGIES." I enjoyed this textbook so much that I caught myself reading Chapters that we were not even assigned to read just because I was that interested. My favorite discussion that we did in this class was: DISCUSSION TOPIC #4 - TECHNOLOGY ASSISTING ELL STUDENTS. This discussion was my favorite because I really enjoyed learning all about ELL students. When I observed classrooms this semester, I noticed that there were many ELL students, and I look forward to being able to teach them as well. My favorite activity in this class has to be doing the blogs. The blogs really made a big impact on me because I have never done them before. I now think that they are really great to use, I was able to reflective on all of my Chapter reading in an organized way, I really look forward to continue to use blogger.com for my future classes and reflections in general. One of the learning objectives was: The students will evaluate and critique various software and hardware tools to determine utility in a K-12 setting. I enjoyed learning all about the different software and hardware tools that k-12 students' use. I am amazed about all of the different types of technology that is created more and more each generation. Feedback: I really would not suggest any negativity to my professor to improve this course. My professor attended to me whenever I had a question, no matter what, online class or not. She did a great job. I would just give myself feedback to be more attentive with online classes like this that challenge me! Above word count: 360 Resource: Beverly, W. (2014). DIGITAL BADGE #L CHAPTER 12

INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY AND CREATING CHANGE AS TEACHER LEADERS CHAPTER 12 The first topic I would like to reflect on in this chapter "Features of a Technology-Integrated Classroom." I am interested in this topic because really what would teaching be like without all of the technology that we have today? Having DVD Players, interactive whiteboards, digital pens, are all amazing things that teachers have access to use in their classrooms today. Its crazy to do research and look into how much technology has been created compared to decades ago. Another topic I would like to reflect on in Chapter 12 would be "One to one Laptop Computing." This means that every individual student has their own device in school. I think this is a great thing, although at the same time I am unsure of how I feel about it due to the expenses. There are many many pros to this idea and a few cons that come with it to. 18 million dollars per year is a crazy amount of money to be spent on computers, but I am sure it is worth it for the students. "Technology and the culture of Schools" is the last topic that I am going to reflect on with this Chapter. I think that is is sad that there are real statistics due to different cultures and their learning. I don't think that some of the stats are completely fair, although I am sure they are right. Having a specific culture should not really effect a student's learning. The technology being used in schools does have an impact on everyone in different ways.

Chapter 6

FOSTERING ONLINE LEARNING WITH EDUCATIONAL WEBSITES AND APPS

Interactive Videoconferencing

"Videoconferencing is a powerful learning technology that offers real-time access to people and places that students are unable to visit." I think this interactive videoconferencing is awesome because it gives students a different way to learn and interact with others. Sitting in a classroom all day can get boring and can cause loss of interest to students after a long period of time. I am reflecting on this topic because it is a great opportunity for a different type of learning.

Online Learning and Virtual Schools

I don't know where I should begin with my reflection on this topic in Chapter 6 because I am all for Online Learning. I think there are SO many positive things to say about it. One of the main reasons why I believe that online education is awesome is because it gives you the opportunity to have much more flexibility with your daily life. It is hard to be a full time student, sometimes a Mother, a full time employee, and to be able to go onto a campus full time as well. With that being said. being able to learn everything you need to know through a computer, makes your life so much easier. At the same time, there are a few disadvantages. One of the disadvantages that I am currently facing with my online schooling is not being able to get direct instructions from my professor in the classroom. Of course my professors do a great job with instructions through the internet, but sometimes I do have trouble understanding without an explanation in front of me.

Using Educational Websites and Apps Interactively

I think that Educational apps and websites are awesome and extremely beneficial from my own personal experiences with them. After a nice lesson from a professor in class, it is great that there are more resources for students to use like these apps to get a better understanding from different point of views and perspectives. Being able to interact on these apps using examples with problems that are being learned gives more opportunities to be successful.

Chapter 11: Digital Badge #J

"Engaging Students in Performance Assessment and Reflective Learning"

The first topic I would like to reflect on in this Chapter will be "Involving Students in Learning and Assessment" This topic really caught my attention because it seems that it is so true. Having students be more involved in having options with learning seems as if they will want to be much more interested in actually learning and being productive with the homework, and the material that they are learning in school. If a student has an option on what type of homework they can do, they may just be that much more motivated to get the work done and learn about it.

"Reasons for teaching with clickers"

Clickers seem to be awesome for students in school. School is all about student involvement. What better way to get students involved is there then using clickers? Listening to the teacher speak can get awfully boring sometimes we all have to admit. Allowing students to engage in the activities seems must more appealing to learn material then just listen to lectures all day. The sound of a "game" rather then the sound of a "lecture" also seems much more appealing then one another! I am looking forward to having my future students engage and be active in my classroom using clickers.

"Preparing for High-Stakes Tests"

I am reflecting on this topic in the Chapter because what would school be without tests? Well awesome of course! But not really realistic. With that being said, preparing for these high stake tests is very important. There are now different ways for students to get prepared for these tests. These tests can be so important, and can determine whether the make it to the next grade, or even graduate High School. It is very important for teachers to help students prepare for these high stake tests.

CHAPTER 4 DIGITAL BADGE #I

Designing Lessons and Developing Curriculum with Technology
Chapter 4 Digital Badge #I

"Learning Assessments (Knowing what students have learned)
I am reflecting on this section of the Chapter because I believe that learning assessments will be very beneficial for me and my future students. As a current student, it is very important for me to know my current grades, along with my progress in all of my classes, so I know what I need to work on and try harder on to be successful. As a future teacher, I know that learning assessments will be very beneficial for me because I will be able to see how my students are doing. There are many different options for a learning assessment for your students. I want me students to be successful, so I will do everything I can to keep up with their progress.

"Using Electronic software"
What would education be without electronics these days? Electronic grading software is a virtual record keeping system. I am looking forward to being able to use electronic grading software as a teacher because it will make my work quicker and my students will have their grades accurately and much quicker then if I did not have this system to use for calculating grades. Although being an Elementary teacher, not all of the work I will provide will be graded with letter grades. Teachers are able to create their own grading system for the particular assignment that is given, and are able to put that into the software so it is great for what you need at that specific time and for each specific assignment.

"Meeting Educational Standards"
I am reflecting on this topic in the chapter because meeting educational standards is a significant part of my just as a future teacher. Each grade level has specific guide lines that are needed to go by in order to get the material out that is needed for that grade level, not just anything can be taught. When reality is thought about, there are so many things that is needed to know. So, with that being said, decisions need to be made on what to take out, and what to leave in your teaching in the classroom. It it is up to the teacher on what to do with that situation. I am looking forward to being creative and choosing what I will believe is the best in the curriculum that needs to be taught.

Chapter 9

"Multimedia Technologies in Schools Today"
I am reflecting on this topic because I think that having multimedia technologies in schools today is very beneficial for students in today's society. Multi means more then one, so multimedia is bringing more then one type of media together as one. Power points are great examples of multimedia technology. In powerpoint presentation there are different things all being shown on one slide. Pictures, text, diagrams, you can even add sounds to a powerpoint along with animation as well. Single mode teaching is not as good as multimedia teaching in schools. I am looking forward to being able to create power points in my classroom as a teacher and creating fun things to make learning more fun!

"Strategies for using powerpoint with students"
I am interested in reflecting on this topic because it has much relation to the topic i reflected on above this one. I am looking forward to creating power points for my students, but before doing all of that, I need to learn exactly how powerpoint works. There are different strategies that have to be done to draw attention to the correct information. For instance, a powerpoint slide with many small words on it in a very dull color will not attract a students eye. I am looking forwards to reading about these strategies in the text and actually be able to use them for mine and my students' benefit.

"Digital Storytelling"
Digital storytelling is awesome to be able to have in the classrooms. Reading a book is not always something that is going to be on a students priority list of interests. With that being said, there are so many things with today's technology that have been created to help solve this problem. There are things called iMovie, moviemaker, etc, that have visual affects while telling a story. These things make it so much more appealing to a student trying to read.

Digital Badge #G CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10

"Electronic Spellers and dictionaries"
Electronic spellers and dictionaries is one of the most creative things that I have learned about yet in my opinion. These things are good for so many different things. You are able to plug headphones into the machine so you aren't disturbing others while learning. All ages have access to these machines.
Students that have seeing problems can use them, because the machine is all through hearing. A student that is trying to learn a different language can use it for great help as well. I am reflecting on this topic in chapter 10 because it is one of the things that is used in classrooms that I believe is extremely beneficial for students AND teachers.

Handheld calculators
What would life be like in school without a calculator? Calculators can be used for simple math problems, or complicated ones that have to do with graphing, they even have calculators now a days that make graphs for you. We don't realize that calculators can be beneficial to everyone sometimes, even children with learning disabilities. For instance, there are calculators that do the number operations for you, so you don't have to remember what has to be put into the calculator first.

Interactive electronic storybooks
These interactive storybooks seem great and I can't wait until I am a teacher and can share these with my students. They not only have them on CDs, but you can download apps on tablets and smartphones. Students are more interested in technology these days, so I think that reading a story on a tablet or a computer, will draw much more interest then picking up a book and reading. These apps are so awesome because not only do they read aloud to you, they have visuals along with the stories. I am reflecting on this topic in the chapter because I will be interested in downloading an app like this so I can learn more about them.

Digital Badge #F (Chapter 8)

Chapter 8 is my favorite Chapter to reflect on so far.

"ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS"

Communication with students and teachers is so very important, and that is why I would life to reflect on this topic first in Chapter 8. If a student is having a problem with an assignment, and a teacher needs to know something from a student, it is nice to have emailing there outside of the classroom as well. There are websites, blogs, wikis, and many more ways for students and teachers to communicate. I prefer email out of all of these options because I believe it is the most efficient. If there is something that is due, and there is no school the next day, emailing your teacher is a good thing to be able to do to get the help you need.

"TEACHING BEYOND THE SCHOOL DAY"
I would like to reflect on this topic because it means a lot to me as a student and as a future teacher. You don't usually wake up one day and say, I think I am going to be a teacher just for the heck of it. No, that really does not happen. Someone that is planning on being a teacher, most likely has the desire to help people, not because of the money, but just because that is the passion they have in their heart, to be a teacher. With that being said, teaching beyond the school day is going to happen to teachers. Having electronic communication between students and teachers plays a big part in this. If your student wants to share ideas or have problems with something you gave them, you will be receiving emails or whatever type of communication you and your students have discussed even after the school day ends.

"EMPHASIZE RAPID FEEDBACK"
Coming from me as a student, I need to have lots of feedback from my teachers whether its good or bad feedback. Taking online classes has been a really big challenge for me but I refuse to give up. In Therefore rapid feedback is very important to me to help me be successful with the help of my handwork and my professors. In the textbook it states that rapid feedback benefits both the teacher and the student. I 100% have to agree with this because not only is the student now realizing what he or she is doing right or wrong, but the professor is able to understand what the problem is so it can be fixed. I am looking forward to being able to communicate with my students rapidly just as my current professors are helping me get through these online classes successfully.

This is a picture that I screen shotted on my laptop. It is an example of what a blog is, relevant to a teacher being able to communicate with students via blogs.

Digital Badge #E Chapter 7

Exploring Problem Solving with Software, Apps, and Games

"Steps in Solving Problems"
This topic is the first one that I would like to reflect on in Chapter 7. This is a good reflection for me because I am going through a lot of "problem solving" with the difficulties I am having with some of my online assignments. So after reading this, it made me realize that there is no need to panic you just need to learn the strategies that are mentioned in the textbook to figure things out. Students are known to get overwhelmed when problems occur, (especially me.) Understanding the problem, Using problem-solving strategies, and checking results are all steps that should be taken to solve your problems. (Woolf, 159) I am looking forward to being able to teach my students the strategies on problem solving.

"Types of Software"
In the text it states many of the different types of software that people use. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. I was unaware about the two different types, (system software, application software.) I am hoping that I am able to learn more about all of these programs so when I become a teacher I am able to making my teaching much more interesting with all of the new technology and software programs out there.

"Computer Games as Learning Resources"
This is a very interesting topic for me to reflect on in Chapter 7 because I think that games catches students eyes, and is a great way for students to learn and be interested at the same time. There are so many different types of games that adhere to every students interests and needs. Gamification is nice to learn about because I now understand how lots of companies get customers to come back and purchase their products. I think that is is so awesome that schools are even able to use this with games in the classroom, to create practice quizzes in game forms to make it more appealing for students, etc.

This is a photo that I got from the sight flickr to show what one of the programs that is used today called Excel. Excel is a great program to use for a variety of things, grading would be one thing that a teacher could use it for, or keeping attendance, etc.

(Chapter 5)

 (Chapter 5)

"Teaching Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship"

Becoming Fluent with Technology
This is an interesting topic in this chapter for me because I believe without fluency with technology, your teaching would not be the same. In the textbook it states that being a fluent technology user, is the goal for every teacher. If you know the ins and outs of newly updated technology as a teacher it will open up your ways of being able to teach your students, with things other then chalk boards. I like to reflect on this because I wouldn't think that even students in kindergarten have very much access to learning with technology, but that is wrong. It states that all grades are able to be using technology in schools. There is more to learning then just using notebooks, and pieces of paper.

Teaching Students About Internet Searching
What would life be without google? That is a good question. I am reflecting on this topic in Chapter 5 because people are so dependent on internet searching in today's society. With any small fact that someone is interested in knowing, all you have to do is google it and see what that brings you. Statistics say that google is the most popular search engine today. It is important for students to be aware of internet searching because if they are interested in getting help with something, they can rely on the internet to help them if they have no one around.

Electronic Note-Taking
This topic I saved to reflect on last because it it one of my favorites in this particular Chapter. It is so much easier to sit on your laptop and type what is needed rather then cramp your hand with tons of information written down. Being able to use technology for note taking, not only helps yours hands, but is much more efficient and students will have less of a chance of missing something being said to be able to get down for notes. The textbook talks about different types of programs that are available for anyone that is interested in organizing your note taking. These are very good ways to stay organized which will help you be more successful in school. I know when I was growing up using my pencil for taking notes was a pain in the butt, now that I am able to use my laptop in class, I am much more efficient and motivated to take notes for my success.

I really enjoy this picture because it is a combination of just about everything I talked about in my post this week. It shows google, the most popular search engine on the internet right now, while at the same time this image is showing a tablet and a phone to take your notes with electronics.

Digital badge #D- Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Digital badge #D

"Academic Content (What to Teach)"
This topic is something that I would like to reflect upon. Every school system is different and has specific guidelines that teachers have to meet throughout the school year. This is something I would like to talk about more because yes each teacher has a guideline of what they need to teach, there is no frame on how it needs to be taught. In today's society there are so many different types of ways to teach a subject, and be creative about it with technology. You can come up with your own creative ways to teach subjects to make it more entertaining for your students and I am looking forward to finding ways to teach boring subject in fun ways!

"Assessing and Evaluating Students"
There is nothing more rewarding then seeing that your students are comprehending and successfully learning what you are teaching. A lot of preparation and planning goes into teaching lessons as I am learning the more and more I read. I would like to learn and research more about how teachers evaluate students to see what they are being successful with and what they need to work on. This topic is very important because it can determine what you need to change about how you are teaching to help every student become successful.

"Standards-Based Assessments"
These types of tests are state, national or district wide. They are tests that show if students know what they are expected to know at that specific time of their education process. Many schools that I have been to growing up have been against these standardized tests because the lessons throughout the school year are based on just preparing for these standardized tests. The people that create these tests believe that the tests are testing to see how effect the teachers are on the students. I would like to reflect on this topic more because it is something that plays a huge role in a teachers job, not just a small role. So it will be a huge part of my future job.

This is an image of the "FCAT" which is a huge standardized test that every student has to take throughout their education as a student in Florida. (When I was in school at least.)

DIGITAL BADGE #C (Chapter 3) REDO

Digital Badge #C (Chapter 3) REDO

In Chapter 3 there were many things that I would like to reflect on. The first topic in the textbook I would like to share would be "Online Problem-Solving Environments." The internet is something that is an everyday use for more children. There are a lot of sites on the internet that could cause distractions for learning of the students, while at the same time there are so many educational sites out there that can be useful. Even online games on computers need critical thinking and strategy for results. So if you are telling your family that playing games (other then social networks) in my opinion is a negative thing, then you may be wrong! Even a game can help a student with their critical thinking without them even realizing it.

The second topic that I would like to reflect on in this Chapter is "Groupwork and Collaboration." This is a huge factor in education. Every student learns efficiently in different types of ways. In order to adhere to all students, different type of teaching is a great way to make sure each and every student is going to be successful. Working in groups is a nice way for students to reflect on eachother's thoughts. It also gives opportunities for students to work at different activities at the same time, and builds responsibility.

"Redefining Creativity" is the third topic in the Chapter that I am going to reflect on. This is an interesting topic for me because it relates to social networks and social media. Also everyday activities for today's society. Not every student considers themselves "talented or gifted." Well there are many creative things that students do on a daily basis that is creative that they don't realize. Students may ride a bike, play an instrument, or maybe even paint. You don't have to be a sculptor or an artist to feel creative, and students need to realize that.

This is a picture of students working in groups, as I talked about in my reflections above.

Chapter 2

#B
After reading Chapter 2 in the textbook, I came up with three concepts that I would like to further explore and reflect on.

"Motivating disengaged individuals." This statement was in the textbook, I found it interesting because it can really be done through technology. Some students may not be motivated to learn with the old fashioned way of learning. For instance, just sitting at a desk listening to a lecture, taking notes, taking quizzes, and tests from the lectures. Technology brings out new ideas and triggers students now a days because they were brought up with some much technology in their lives.

"Allowing access to academic information from multiple sources." This also is something that I believe is so important now a days. I would like to reflect on this statement made in the textbook because it is so true. Students will often get bored doing the same thing over and over again. Changing routine can be good sometimes. For example, if you take turns on how you are teaching your lesson, (overhead, powerpoints, group work, lectures) then your students will be more alert and not bored in class.

"Creating group and cooperative learning situations." Group work has worked so well for me in my past. Getting opinions from fellow classmates, not just your teacher will enhance the learning. Sitting at a desk every day looking at the board and teacher gets old. Creating fun things to do in the classroom while learning at the same time is something that I look forward to doing when I become a teacher.

Digital Badge #A Chapter 1

Chapter 1

The concept that I am choosing to briefly describe is on how big of a role technology really does have in Education. I can really reflect on this topic because I was born in the generation that is described in the book in the 90s where no one really grows up without some sort of learning technology piece even as a toddler. I think that this will impact me as a teacher because I am so familiar with today's technology and how popular it is now a days. Although I am quite aware that there will always be so much more to learn about technology on a daily basis. I believe that growing up when I did will impact me as a teacher in a positive way because of being so familiar.

Another concept that I am going to point out will be on computers. People do not really realize how much computers really do for us, unfortunately many of us take them for granted. I can relate to this most certainly because ever since grade school I have been using computers not really caring about what they are doing for me as long as the computer is processing what I an telling it to do in a timely manner. This will impact me as a teacher because I will be able to realize and explain to my students how awesome computers really are and that no one should take them for granted.

The third concept that I would like to address would be about "21st century skills." Every year, even day that goes by, something newer/ better comes out. The more skills that we have as teachers the better we will be at informing our students about today's society in technology. I believe that this will impact me as a teacher because I will always be doing my absolute best to continue my skills with learning the new technology that comes out so I am up to date and on the same level as my students.

Overall in Chapter 1 there was so many things that I learned already. I am so excited to be able to read more in this textbook because there is a bunch that I need to figure out on how to become a successful teacher. I didn't even think about how much technology was really used until I read this chapter, you really don't think about it until you sit down and read about how much technology is used in today's schools.
